Looking Forward to 2018

Rehoboth Beach 2017

So I wasn't able to run last week except to test a new shoe, Rider 21, for the race. It really hurt my right knee after 3 miles. My achilles hurt last week after running 3 days in a row so I was looking for a new shoe. My MT CC said stress soft tissue over hard tissue so I went with the Saucony Ride in the race. I always listen to CC, my therapist, friend and coach.
My knee still hurt from the test run for the first 7 miles but THEN I was OK.  miles of slow running followed by getting into my pace and by mile 18 I was crusing! I had hoped for a 4:19 but since this is the season (Advent) of Hope, I stuck with it and was rewarded with a 4:16:02 6/18 in my age group. AG equivalent now is 3:16 but it is tough not to be able to run as fast as I did even 5 years ago.

Amherst Half Marathon

It was the inaugural for the Amherst MA 1/2 marathon. It started out cold
: I had 2 merino wool shirts, gloves and a merino hat on and I left the hat on the entire race. It started up hill and continued up and down for most of the race. I did think that too much was on the wrong side of the road the opposite canter would have been better. But my right leg was good the whole way. I finished strong in 1:59:26, 1st in age group 1/3. Great race which I will run again. Jane from Select PT was there but I did not see any runners I knew.

Running Well

Yes I feel good on every run again, slow but relatively pain free. 15.4 miles today in 2:31. Amherst 1/2 next Sunday and Rehoboth marathon first week of December. My plan is to run 2 minutes faster than Boise next weekend and 7-8 minutes faster in Rehoboth than Hartford.

Pure Joy!

I ran my first marathon of the year, Eversource Hartford yesterday in 4:27:43. The joy I felt the entire race I can not describe. I was smiling the entire run and kicked it in the last 2.2 miles.

Fit One Half Boise ID

Awesome time in Idaho. 2:03:03.6 for the half 5/6 in age group in top 1/3 of all finishers BUT I felt like my old self for the last 6+ miles I was running by everyone.
I'm going to try the Hartford Marathon to see how far I have progressed.

August Stats and Reflection

I felt better in August with running 103.5 miles and 123.81 miles on the Elliptigo. Things seem too tight still and I'm not sure I like the Clifton 4 as much as the Clifton 3. Too many long miles last week had me back on the Elliptigo ARC 3 all weekend. Half in 2 weeks will tell me more about my progress.

No Compression

My LMT Cecilia Major felt the compression shorts may be the cause of some numbness I have been experiencing and I tested it out this weekend. Seems like she is spot on.
41.3 miles on the ARC 3 Elliptigo and 26.4 miles running this week. I feel good and I believe I am finally able to ramp up so I can start racing again.

Month Off!

Yes I had to take a month off. I just didn't have it. After a 16.1 run I knew I needed to do something different. About 280 miles on my Elliptigo ARC 3 and I finally ran the past 6 days, about 18 miles.
i'm back to 35-40 minutes with plans to run a1/2 in October and a full in December.

Coming Back Slowly

I've run 4 out of the past 6 days for a total of 19.1 miles. I have a lot of strength training to do and I have been adding 1 or 2 a day but it's very time consuming. Definitely stronger running 8:56 pace overall today in 88 degree heat for 5.2 miles. Needed more to drink.

Finally, Back to Running

Injured!

Yes all those miles WERE too good to be true. I did NOT run Boston. It would have been painful and I would have walked most of the last  miles. I had a great run in 2016 and I just couldn't run just to run.
I started going to Select PT, http://www.selectphysicaltherapy.com/community/connecticut/center/?id=40593 and I am hopeful to make a complete recovery. It was explained to me that I did not let myself recover between the long races. Made sense! Yoga, PT, acupuncture and massage.
I just bough a ARC 3 Elliptigo (should have gone with ARC 8 for down hills) and I'm hoping to go 50 miles per week.
At 65 it was recommended to run 4 days and strength train 3 days a week.
I hope to get back to run 3, Elliptigo 2 and strength train 2 days per week.

Hoka Arahi

I was given a pair of Hoka Arahi by Steph and Carrie for 6.5 years of service to Fleet Feet of West Hartford. Sweet ladies! Ran 5.2 miles just now and I love the shoes. It will be hard choosing between On Cloudflow and Hoka Arahi for Boston.

Last Long Run Before Boston

Back to Back 10s

Yes I was able to run 10.3 miles on Sunday. I felt a little tight after but OK.

Saturday, March 11, 2017

Back to the Conquest 3

Last year I was able to run an incredible number of miles running in the Conquest 2. So today after thinking more about it I switched back to the Hoka Conquest 3. I feel fine after running 10.1 mi. and I hope to run another 10 tomorrow.

Spring-like Weather and a Spring in my Step

11 miles this afternoon after work in 1;45 my legs felt great and I still feel good. Cecilia and Kendra have me feeling I can run Boston OK but slow and I will continue to heal my right leg/hip. Ran in the Brooks Ghost today. I don't think any of the Hoka models work for me right now. I am waiting for the new Clifton 3 which is suppost to be more like the Odyssey 2 which I loved but is too narrow.

Westfield River Trail from All Trails

Ran 5.7 miles at the Westfield River Trail in Agawam MA. Took 1:01 nice trails but it beat up my right knee. A little climbing involved and had to park on side street since the park open all year was closed.
Nice, I will run here again.

Each Mile Faster than the Last

8.2 miles today: 1st 9:31 and last 8;52. Felt great! SI joint more stable. I changed my posture and gait because of the exercises Kendra Renzoni gave to do.

17 Miles!

Yes 17 miles today in 2:44:15. I haven't run this far since Dec. 3 2016. Thanks to Cecilia Major my LMT and her help in finding Kendra Renzoni ,yoga and shiatsu, both helped me get my right leg back to being able to run longer. It's funny that your job oftens defines you but running really defines me. It has been a struggle that my wife Annemarie has helped me with and has shown a lot of understanding. God bless her! God bless all the helpers I have. Kendra is going to be out for 6 weeks but I found a yin-yang yoga class which I hope will help me get ready for Boston.

Kendra

After my 2 hour session with my yoga instructor I push off with my right foot like I am skating.
My right knee is actually better after the run than before. 12.5 miles Sunday and 5.5 today. Today's pace was 9:01. Beans, brown rice and broccoli for supper. Thanks sweetheart!

On Day 2

Felt like my old self today 5.2 miles with last a @8:30/mi. On Cloudflow definitely awesome.
Kevin at Select Physical Therapy put my right hip back in place on Saturday which definitely lead to 15 yesterday and 5 today.

Sunday, January 29, 2017

On Cloudflow

I just ran 10.2 miles in Cloudflow. Light, responsive 6mm offset. Toes a little beat up near end fine now that I stopped. I will love them if I can run well tomorrow.

No Rocky Raccon 50 This Year

I ran too many long races last year and I did not remain strong. The nerve pain in my right leg which I have had for 20 years+ came back. I haven't been able to run long because of my work schedule so without a 30 miler under my belt I didn't want to run just to say I did it. I want to finish strong! Right now the fastest sustained speed I can run is about 6.5 mph. 12.1 miles today on my 65th birthday. Yoga tonight.

Vernon Rail Trail

I finally got a weekend day off and ran 13 on the rail trail. Wonderful.

Thursday, January 12, 2017

Day Off

I was able to run 3.7 and 10.1 miles, acupuncture demo with CBS CT and had my first yoga class with Kendra.
It was a great day.

Beginning of January 2017

I have run all 4 days of January, for a total of 21 miles. Right knee is swollen but not painful.
Actually, it's the quad that is swollen. I still feel some pain in the glut attachment too. But I need to run!

A Very Happy New Year

I hadn't run for 9 days until a 7 miler today with NO pain!
I finally didn't do anything for 2 days and then slowly put back the many things I do in a day. Most of the yoga was fine. Pull ups OK too. Rolling for the most part helped.
Today in Mass I kneeled down and I felt the nerve next to my knee go back in place.
I found it was the compression tights, socks etc. that was causing the pain.
I feel tired but nearly pain free.
Also I got a pair of size 11 Bondi 5 yesterday. I saw that Catra Corbett worn them and I felt like I should try them. Perfect!
